"Special" Talk Outline for this Sunday?
by Mrs. Witness inlast night hubby told me that his brother (an elder) told him how "provocative" the outline for this sunday's special talk is.
apparently it's something like "who is qualified to rule mankind" and goes on about how government is not qualified.
he then asked me if i'd like to attend (ha ha).

Hello everyone. Last night hubby told me that his brother (an elder) told him how "provocative" the outline for this Sunday's special talk is. Apparently it's something like "Who is Qualified to Rule Mankind" and goes on about how government is not qualified. He then asked me if I'd like to attend (ha ha). I told him I'd be more interested in a special talk about how the WTBTS is not qualified to rule their congregations and then I proceeded to berate him for about an hour about what's wrong with the WTBTS. He tried to salvage by going off topic, but I reeled him back.
I stunned him with the news that Brooklyn Bethel is on the sales block. I jabbed with the pedophilia cases. Then we got on the topic of how people will do anything if they think it's what their religion wants when he brought up a sad tale that he'd heard about a woman who let her child die rather than get the child treatment for "treatable diabetes" because her religious belief was that prayer would heal the child (). So then I pounced! I said "how is that any different than letting your child die from a treatable disease like leukemia by not allowing blood transfusions?!" Then I brought up Emma Gough and how she died from a "treatable" hemmorage after child birth. I said "how can you condemn that woman for not treating diabetes but say that becoming a martyr by refusing blood is good?!"
But I digress...I started this topic to beseech the active elders on the board for a scan of the "provocative" outline for this Sunday's special talk. Does anyone have it?
Thanks in advance!

Will A JW pick his religion over raising his own child?
by HYM inmy ex was disfellowshipped and then he was going to go back to the religion, but he met me and fell in love... i kept trying to push him away because i knew that jw's were only to date jw's.
he insisted that we stayed together.
now 9 months later, i am pregnant and he decided he needed to go back and renew his faith.

The Kingdom Of The Cults....
by lovelylil inby walter martin.
anyone read this?
my used copy from amazon just came today.

Lil, personally, I'm an agnostic leaning athiest, so no, I don't believe in much of anything that is written in the bible. I mentioned the trinity/deity of Christ because I felt he focused on that too much, when there are so many other things that the JW's have wrong. He seemed to not have studied them much beyond points that he could argue from his own faith.

I've read it. In fact, it was the first book I read about JW's because I couldn't get my hands on C of C. It's OK. The guy's a fundamentalist/evangelical who focuses on the trinity and how JW's are wrong because they deny the deity of Christ. There are better books, in my opinion, but it's not a bad read....just consider the source.

WT-Says Moms Should not Work
by leaving-jws inthe feb 1, 2008 wt has an article on p. 28 called finding fulfillment as a mother.
the article basically states that moms should not work outside of the home but stay at home with their kids to teach them things about jehovah.
it also states that moms that want to work outside the home full-time do so not out of economic necessity but to boost their self worth, to obtain financial independence or to pay for luxuries.

Well, this UBM works and supports the entire family, JW hubby who's out of work included. They can take their WT and put it where the sun don't shine. I'm so sick of people trying to make working moms feel guilty for working! UGH! It makes me sooooooo mad!!!

am i right in thinking that jws can lie under certain crcumstances ?
by looloo incan anyone quote me any literarature on lying being alright , does it not matter about lying to worldlys as they are considered evil anyway .
when i used to study i remember hearing many times "i cannot tell a lie ,i am a jehovahs witness "( this was usually said by people who everyone knew told lies ) when i hear jw talk now about how marvelous they are it makes me want to vomit .

That's the thing that scares me the most! Courts are too afraid of making judgments based on religion...even when the religion is clearly out of line.
Can you imagine converting to Old Order Amish?! And how can the court say that polygamist teachings aren't harmful psychologically? Wasn't there a recent article about a girl who escaped that situation?! UGH!

First rock concert
by JK666 ini have recently talked with other members on jwd about the first time they went to a concert.
it was interesting the different choices of artists, and the age we were when we finally went to one.. my first was after i got my driver's license, so i was 16 years old.
i went to see a concert with black oak arkansas, foghat, and montrose (when sammy hagar was just a pup).

My first was Motley Crue at 13. Y&T opened for them and they only played one song before the singer left the stage. I guess he had a sore throat. My last was AC/DC in 1996 when I was 5 months pregnant with daughter #1. She really enjoyed kicking along with the guns on "For those about to rock".
I've seen Motley Crue twice, Whitesnake twice, Guns N Roses & Aerosmith once. But the best, the ABSOLUTE BEST was Page & Plant way back in 1995. They're awesome and even though I haven't been to a concert in 12 years because they're too damn expensive, I will pay to see them again if they tour!
Edited to add: Dinah, I saw Blow Up Your Video too! It was my second concert. I've seen AC/DC three times I think. They know how to put on a show!!

The Door to Door Argument and various musings
by Mrs. Witness inhey everybody!
i had it out with hubby this weekend.
i think what set it off was a "to-do" list that he made first thing in the morning that listed all the chores i needed to do under his name and the chore under my name was to go to the kh with him to hear the co give a talk about "why the bible is accurate".

I knew that and so after he read it in the NWT, I read it to him from my NIV. I was so close. I could almost see the light go on.
